๐ Have you ever wondered how many career pathways truly exist beyond school? Or how many institutions offer specialised programs that align with your personal strengths and interests?
๐ With these questions in mind, the College Connection Gallery was thoughtfully conceptualised and hosted by the Student Council of Grade 11 at SPS Salem, under the guidance of the Career Counselling and Guidance Cell, on the 26th of September 2025. This exclusive initiative was curated for the students of Grades 11 and 12 to support them in making informed academic and career decisions as they prepare for life after school.
๐ The event was formally inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Principal Dr. V. Manoharan. The organisers were deeply motivated by the encouragement and support of Senior Principal Shri C. Srinivasan, Vice Principal Ms. Nalini, and Career Counselling Coordinators Mr.Sounda rajan and Ms. Aruna Devi B, whose guidance played a key role in shaping the event.
๐ The event took place in the Physics Lab, which was transformed into an inviting, resource-rich gallery space. The venue was enhanced with colourful vocabulary fillers and thematic displays revolving around careers, colleges, and future aspirations. The goal was not only to provide information but to spark curiosity: What are the career options in emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence or Environmental Law? How do liberal arts programs compare to conventional degrees?
๐ A remarkable highlight of the gallery was the collection of over 270 brochures and pamphlets from reputed universities, colleges, and educational institutions, both from India and abroad. These were displayed on tables arranged in a logical, sequential order, allowing students to browse at their own pace, compare institutions, and even take notes for further research. From medical sciences to humanities, from design schools to engineering colleges, the array of options was truly diverse.
๐ What made the gallery more impactful was not just the display of information, but the student-led interaction that accompanied it. As fellow learners, the council members helped their peers navigate the material, answered questions, and encouraged them to think critically about their interests, goals, and academic strengths. Questions such as โDo you want to pursue a course that offers both flexibility and depth?โ or โWhat entrance exams are you eligible for next year?โ were raised in the spirit of healthy discussion.
๐ Career guidance at this stage is essentialโnot only to broaden students' understanding of what is available, but also to prevent confusion and anxiety during decision-making. With structured exposure, students gain confidence in their choices and can start setting achievable goals aligned with their passion and potential.
๐ Despite a limited preparation period, the event was executed smoothly and professionally. Student organisers, were proud to share that this experience taught us real-world skills such as time management, team coordination, event planning, and communication. The process was intense, but the outcome was deeply rewardingโfor both the visitors and student organisers.
๐ As a thoughtful conclusion, every visitor was given a gratitude and feedback card, as a token of appreciation and a space to reflect on their learning experience.
๐ So, have you started exploring your options yet? Do you know where your interests can take you? If not, the journey begins now. ๐
